Webcasting of Inauguration of Sankalp Saptah Program
Sankalp Saptah Program
KVK Cuttack organized a program to watch the Live webcasting program of the inauguration of Sankalp Saptah Program by Hon’ble Prime Minister of India on September 30, 2023, from Bharat Mandapam, ITPO, New Delhi. A total of 21 rural youth and farmers watched the program at KVK campus, Santhapur. The Sankalp Saptah Program is being organized in 500 aspirational blocks by NITI Aayog from September 3-9, 2023, under the aspirational blocks program.
24th Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) Meeting
The 24th Scientific Advisory Committee meeting of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Cuttack was held on 19.07.2023 at its Santhapur campus under the Chairmanship of Dr. A K Nayak, Director, ICAR-NRU, Cuttack. The meeting was affended by the members, invited guests, Nodal Officer, OIC and SMSs of KVK, Cuttack. At the outset, Dr. Sujata Sethy, OIC and Member Secretary of SAC meeting welcomed the Chairman and other members. After introduction of the members and invitees, the Chairman took up the proceedings as per agenda. Dr. Sethy presented the ATR of 23’d SAC meeting with achievements of KVK Cuttack for the period from April 2022 to March 2023 and the action plan for 2023-24. The activities namely trainings, OFTs, FLDs etc., taken up during 2022-23 and proposed activities for 2023-24 in the area of soil science, horticulture, animal science, home science and agrometeorology were presented by the concerned Subject Matter Specialists of the KVK. The Chairman and other members provided their valuable suggestions which are presented in the followings. In the concluding part of the meeting the overall suggestions of the Chairman, Nodal Officer and other members were recorded for taking appropriate actions. Dr Dillip Ranjan Sarangi, SMS (Soil Science) proposed the vote of thanks.
Parthenium Awareness Week 2023
Parthenium Awareness Week Organised by KVK Cuttack
KVK Cuttack organized an awareness campaign on Parthenium Awareness Week from August 16-22, 2023,in different villages, schools and its campus covering about 355 school children, 55 extension officials and 48women self-help group members from Cuttack district. Parthenium (Parthenium hysterophorus) known popularly as Gajar ghas or Congress grass or Famine weed due to its resemblance to carrot plant and its dominance character as a ubiquitous invasive weed. This grass is an exotic weed came to India from North American countries through wheat grains. Now it is spread in around 35 million hectares of land area and seriously affecting crop production, livestock and human health. It affects livestock by reducing their appetite, feed intake, different allergic conditions thereby decreasing milk yield, altering milk taste, causing deleterious health. In human being, it causes skin irritation, allergies, dermatitis, eczema, stomach pain, itching etc. It dominates crops and causes many adverse effects for reducing growth, maturity and production potential of crops. In this regard, the awareness programs focused on elimination of the weed from the human habitations for a better health. Dr. S Sethy, Head, KVK, Cuttack requested the participants to ensure parthenium free campus and improvement in health status. Dr. Dillip Ranjan Saragi, SMS (Soil Science) briefed about the control mechanism and effective utilization of parthenium weed for making compost. The organizer of the event, Dr. Ranjan Kumar Mohanta, SMS (Animal Science) described its ill effect on human being and livestock. Grassroot level extension functionaries from Tangi-Choudwar block namely krushimitras and pranimitras, farmers and member of women self-help group of Napanga panchayat, students and teachers from Siddhagiri Bidyapitha, Govindpur, CRRI High School, Bidyadharpur, Rampur UP School, Rampur and Mania UP School, Mania, participated actively in these programs and took a vow to weed out Parthenium and spread the message to others. Dr TR Sahoo, Sri Prasant Pradhan, Sri Ksheerod Pradhan, Sri Ranjit Rout and other members of KVK team coordinated the programs.
Scientific Beekeeping
Training on Scientific Beekeeping
Krishi Vigyan Kendra, ICAR-NRRI Cuttack, organized a 7-day training program sponsored by the National Bee Board from March 1–7, 2023.A total of 25 members from the Swagatika Honey Producer Group participated in the training program. Training Coordinator Dr Tusar Ranjan Sahoo, SMS (Horticulture) prepared the lesson plan for the 7-day time duration. During the training program OUAT Ex-Professor Dr. Chittaranjan Satapathy, Dr.Ramanatha Mohapatra, and ICAR-NRRI Scientist Dr.Basan Gouda G. imparted training to the participants. They all interacted with producer group members and answered their querieson how to become successful in their businesses. Rural youth entrepreneurs Sri Kumar Samal, Sri Suvendu Kar, Sri Chitta Puhan,and Annapurna Chhatoi all were involved in the hands-on training and practical classes for the trainees. All participants learned about the scope of beekeeping, types of honey bees, identification of bees and their colony organization, colony division, specific management of honey bees, diseases & pests, and economics of beekeeping. They could able to see the demonstration of the Honey extraction process inside the kvk premises. All members were visited on an exposure visit to the Honey Bee unit at Kapil, Dhenkanal to learn the Economics and marketing of Honey products. In the valedictory function, Dr Sujata Sethy, OIC, KVK, encouraged all participants to keep honey boxes numbered 1 to 10 in order to supplement household income. She hoped to make a profit after the second year with proper branding and marketing. Dr. Dillip Ranjan Sarangi, SMS (Soil Science) welcomed the dignitaries and Dr. Ranjan Kumar Mohanta, SMS(Animal Science) offered the vote of thanks. Sri Debasish Jena, SMS (Agrometeorology) coordinated the program. Dr. Amaresh Kumar Nayak, Director, ICAR-NRRI, Cuttack, and Dr. Shyamaranjan Das Mohapatra, Nodal Officer, KVK Cuttack, guided and encouraged this seven-day training program.
