Awareness Program on “Natural Farming”

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, ICAR-NRRI, Cuttack organized a farmers’ awareness program on Natural Farming at Pathapur village, Bankion 10th February 2023. The program enlisted the participation of 50 farmers. The entire discussion focused on the negative effects of chemical farming and the positive impacts of natural farming on crop production and productivity. As a result, the sustainability of the food supply can be maintained. Dr. Dillip Ranjan Sarangi, PI-cum-nodal scientist, natural farming project (EAP-390), KVK Cuttack discussed the scope and principle of natural farming in Odisha. He emphasized the use of Beejamrut, Jeevamrut, and Ghana jeevamrut preparation for increasing microbial population in soil and maintaining soil health over time. Dr Tusar Ranjan Sahoo, SMS (Horticulture) & coordinator of the awareness program shed light on natural disease and pest management practices in cropping systems. He highlighted on various preparations such as Neemastra, Agneyastra, and Brahmastra, as well as the use of curd water and cow urine for plant protection measures in natural farming. Sri Surendra Parida, the sarapancha of Pathapur, participated in the program and encouraged all participants to use natural farming practices that benefit crops, soil, and water. All of the farmers interacted and shared their thoughts and concerns about natural farming. All were enthusiastic and promised to begin their practice in the near future. This program was organized under the direction and guidance of the principal scientist – cum nodal officer, KVK Cuttack, Dr. Shyamaranjan Das Mohapatra. The event was supported by Dr. Sujata Sethy, OIC,KVK, and Dr Ranjan Kumar Mohanta, SMS(Animal Science).
