Mahila Kisan Divas – 2022

KVK, Cuttack celebrated Mahila Kisan Divas 2022 at Ragunathpur, Mohura village, Cuttack Sadar Block of Cuttack District on October15, 2022. A total of 52farmwomen participated in the program. Dr Sujata Sethy, OIC, KVK and organizing secretary of the program briefed about the importance of Mahila Kisan Divas and elaborated about the role of women in the agriculture and allied sectors. She further discussed about the women empowerment through women self-help groups. Dr Ranjan Kumar Mohanta and Sri Debasish Jena interacted with the participants and discussed about their role in ensuring a healthy family along with securing livelihood security. Sri Prasant Pradhan and other KVK staffs helped in coordination of the event.

Garib Kalyan Sammelan-2022

KVK Cuttack organized farmers’ fair on 30.05.2022 at KVK campus, Santhapur under the programme “Garib Kalyan Sammelan”. Chief District Agriculture Officer, Cuttack Sri Niranjan Das, attended the occasion as guest of honour who encouraged the farmers to form to work through co-operation for getting the maximum benefit of Government of India programme. Sri Suresh Malick, DPD ATMA, Cuttack addressed the farmers and motivated them to accept IFS models for securing their income and maximise the output in comparison to input. Dr D.R. Sarangi, Nodal Officer & SMS, Soil Science, KVK Cuttack welcomed all the guests, participants and briefed about the programme. He also delivered a talk on “Seed Treatment and Integrated Nutrient Management”,whereas, Dr T.R. Sahoo, SMS(Horticulture) delivered talk on“Horticultural crop for doubling farmers income”. Dr R.K. Mohanta, SMS (Animal Sci.) briefed about “Role of livestock and poultry in income generation”. Around 572 farmers from 9 blocks of Cuttack district participated in the Sammelan and were sensitized about the benefit of natural farming and bio-fortified crops. Live web casting of the program of Hon’ble Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture were broadcasted for the participating farmers.At the end Dr R.K. Mohanta extended the vote of thanks to guests and participating farmers. Mr P. Pradhan (Computer programmer) and other staff of KVK co-ordinated the programme.

Farmers’ Fair – 2022 “Kisan Vagidari Prathamikata Hamari”

KVK Cuttack organized a Farmers’ Fair on 26.04.2022 at Conference Hall of ICAR-NRRI, Cuttack under the programme National Campaign under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav “Bharatiya Prakritik Krishi Paddhati”. It was chaired by Dr. G A K Kumar, Director (I/c), ICAR-NRRI, Cuttack who highlighted about the importance of natural farming for sustainable development in farming system. Representative of CDAO, Cuttack, Sri Sarat Kumar Tosh, the guest of honour encouraged the farmers to form FPOs for better economic return. Dr. Sujata Sethy, OIC, KVK Cuttack welcomed all the guests, participants and briefed about importance of the programme. Under Farmer-Scientist Interaction on “Bharatiya Prakritik Krishi Paddhati”, Dr. DR Sarangi, Dr. TR Sahoo, Dr. RK Mohanta and Sri Debasish Jena delivered interactive lectures on “Natural Farming a step towards sustainability”, “Organic disease and pest management”, “Role of livestock and poultry in natural farming” and “Efficient water and soil moisture management”. Two young Agri-start-ups namely Ms.Chinmayee Patra and Mr. Satyabrata Jena shared their entrepreneurial idea among the farmers and appeal all to join them for more income and profit from agriculture. Around 200 farmers from 10 blocks of Cuttack district participated in the Kisan Mela 2022 and sensitized about the benefit of natural farming and bio-fortified crops. Farmers visited the stalls arranged in the exhibitions and inquired about new technologies related to millets, value addition and natural farming.

World Milk Day -2022

An awareness programme was conducted on the wonder food milk by KVK Cuttack at Bhagatpur village of Tangi-Choudwar block on June 1, 2022 involving 110 participants including children, women and farmers. Dr Ranjan Kumar Mohanta, SMS (Animal Science) discussed about the importance of milk in our day to day life along with its role in ensuring food and nutritional security of the rural community especially the women and children. The importance of colostrum was also discussed particularly its role in postnatal health and immunity of the children. Besides the clean milking procedures for milking of cows was also discussed for getting quality milk. The participants savored the boiled milk distributed on the occasion. Mrs Archana Bej, Mrs Mamata Sahoo and Sri Ranjit Rout coordinated the programme.

World Egg Day – 2022

Egg is a wonder food providing 6-7 gram of high-quality protein and 14 essential nutrients. It is a rich source of nine essential amino acids, essential fatty acids, calcium, phosphorus, choline, folate, vitamin A, B and D, iron, zinc, selenium and many more nutrients. KVK Cuttack celebrated World Egg Day on 14th October 2022 in CRRI High School, Agrahat Primary School and Agrahat village. Three awareness programs were conducted to familiarize with the facts about the egg where 252 children, school staff and farm women actively participated. Dr Ranjan Kumar Mohanta, SMS (Animal Science) and organizer of the event discussed on role of eggs as super food, its role in ensuring food and nutritional security and tips on poultry rearing through interactive mode. Smt. Sagarika Bal, Head Mistress, CRRI High School, advocated for the use of egg for its quality and quantity attributes. Sri Ksheerod Pradhan, Smt Dharitree Sahoo, Itishree Nayak, Binati Behera and staff of concerned schools led by Ashisha Kumar Sethy helped in organizing the program.

Kisan Samman Divas – 2022

KVK Cuttack celebrated Kisan Samman Divas at Dudhianali village of Mahisalanda Gram Panchayat of Tangi- Choudwar on December 23, 2022, where 32 farm women participated. Dr Sujata Sethy, OIC, KVK and Dr Ranjan Kumar Mohanta, SMS (Animal Science) interacted with the participants and discussed about the roles played by the farming community for feeding the whole world and ensuring food and nutritional security. On this occasion the live broadcast of Kisan Samman Divas celebrated by Hon’ble Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Shri Narendra Singh Tomar,and team for empowering millions of farmers throughout India. Shri Prasanta Pradhan, Sri Arabinda Bisoi and Krupasindhu Pradhan facilitated the event.

World Soil Day – 2022

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, ICAR-NRRI, Cuttack celebrated World Soil Day 2022 at Mangarajpur village, Tangi-Choudwar Block of Cuttack District on December 5, 2022. The Theme was based on “Soils, Where Food Begins”. A total of 60 participants including Farmers and Farmwomen, Krishimitras, Pranimitras and invited guests were actively participated during the program. At the outset, an awareness quiz program was organized on Soil Health and Natural Farming among participants by Dr Ranjan Kumar Mohanta. Dr Tusar Ranjan Sahoo, SMS (Horticulture) andorganizing secretary of the program briefed about the importance of World Soil Day 2022. Mrs. Sarojini Mohanty, BPM, Odisha Livelihood Mission, emphasized that soil testing should be available at every farm family’s doorstep. Mrs. Sanghamitra Behera, AHO, Tangi-Choudwar emphasized on mulching, good agricultural practices and in-situ composting methods are effective gardening strategies that prevent soil deterioration. Shri Kulamani Barik, BAO, Tangi-Choudwar urged upon to use Jeevamruta, Beejamrut, like natural farming techniques for sustainable food production. Local Sarpanch Shri Debendranath Panda highlighted the importance of use of neem cake and other organic soil health management techniques for sustainable food production. Summarizing all points, Dr Sujata Sethy, OIC, KVK requested all participants in motivating soil testing, soil test-based fertilizer application and adopting natural farming techniques for successful soil health management.

5-days Training Program on Climate Smart Agricultural Technologies under SCSP

Krishi Vigyan Kendra Cuttack organized a 5-days training program for farmers and farmwomen under Scheduled caste sub-plan on “Climate Smart Agricultural Technologies” during 16-20 January, 2023. A total of 80 SC farmers and farmwomen from 3 blocks participated in the program and learned about different climate smart technologies to be used in changing crop environment. Dr Tusar Ranjan Sahoo, SMS (Horticulture), as training coordinator, imparted both theory and practical classes for their better understanding of resilient practices in current cropping situation. Under his supervision, all participants were visited campus crop   demonstration unit. KVK experts Dr Sujata Sethy, OIC,KVK imparted training on New Agro-Techniques in Mushroom Cultivation and Sri Debasish Jena, SMS (Agro-meteorology) delivered his lecture on “Role and Application of Weather Forecast, Agromet Product in Agriculture and Agromet Advisory Service System” during the training period. All participants became aware about impact of weather changes in cropping system in current situation day by day. Dr Ranjan Kumar Mohanta, SMS (Animal Science) imparted training on Livestock management practices in extreme weather conditions. Based on his practical experiences, Dr Dillip Ranjan Sarangi, SMS (Soil Science) shared his valuable inputs on “Management of Soil Agro Ecosystem in Extreme weather Conditions”. In her remark, Dr. Sujata Sethy requested all  the participants to adopt suitable climate specific technologies for continue crop sustainability. All trainees were given practical exposure inside KVK campus. The training programwas  concluded with a vote of thanks from Dr Ranjan Kumar Mohanta, SMS (Animal Science).
